Eyelid & Orbital Tumor Removal

Eyelid and orbital growths — ranging from benign cysts to skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma — become more common with age due to cumulative sun exposure over a lifetime. Because eyelid skin is thin and delicate, even small lesions warrant careful evaluation, and any new, changing, or non-healing bump on or around the eye should be examined promptly. Routine eye exams in patients over 65 frequently catch these growths early, when they're most treatable.

About Eyelid & Orbital Tumor Removal

Eyelid & Orbital Tumor Removal Eyelid and orbital growths — ranging from benign cysts to skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma — become more common with age due to cumulative sun exposure over a lifetime. Because eyelid skin is thin and delicate, even small lesions warrant careful evaluation, and any new, changing, or non-healing bump on or around the eye should be examined promptly. Routine eye exams in patients over 65 frequently catch these growths early, when they're most treatable.
Treatment involves surgical removal of the lesion, often combined with biopsy to confirm whether it's benign or cancerous, followed by careful reconstruction of the eyelid to preserve both its function (protecting the eye and controlling blinking) and natural appearance. Because the eyelid plays such a critical protective role, reconstruction techniques are more specialized than typical skin surgery elsewhere on the body. Most patients heal well with minimal visible scarring when treated by a surgeon experienced in oculoplastic reconstruction.
